Skin Cancer- what to look out for
The important thing to remember is that most skin cancers, if detected early, can be treated and cured.
It is therefore highly important that people get into a habit of examining their entire body every 3 months,
especially those areas exposed to the sun.
Learn what is normal for you so that you will be able to notice skin changes or new growths.
If a mole or dark patch
Is getting larger or a new one is growing
Has a ragged outline
Has a mixture of shades of brown and black
Is inflamed or has a reddish edge
Is bleeding, oozing or crusting
Is bigger than all your other moles
Feels different, like a mild itch
See your G.P. immediately
It's also crucial that young children are protected from the sun as their skin is more sensitive.
Damage to the skin begins early with nearly 50% of lifetime sun exposure occurring by age of 18.
However skin damage and skin cancer rarely becomes evident until years later.
