action cancer funded researchAction Cancer funds research on cancer-related topics via different forms of grants. All grants are competitive and are subject to peer review. Research Studentships The aim of the Studentships is to provide an opportunity for outstanding graduates in an appropriate chemical, biological or biomedical science to work on a project and undergo research training, with a view to being awarded the PhD by The Queen's University of Belfast or the University of Ulster. The Studentships are awarded for 3 years (subject to satisfactory progress) and comprise:
The Studentships are advertised in December in the Belfast Telegraph. Pilot Grants The aim of the Pilot Grants is to help researchers in Northern Ireland carry out projects by contributing to the purchase of materials and equipment, and to other appropriate costs. These grants are primarily for preliminary investigations and feasibility studies and preference will be given to the support of individuals early in their career. The grants are for sums not exceeding £10,000 and will normally be available from 1 July each year. The Pilot Grants are advertised in February/March in the Belfast Telegraph. Project Grants The aim of the Project Grants is to help researchers in Northern Ireland carry out significant projects by contributing to the salaries, to the purchase of materials and equipment, and to other appropriate costs. The grants are for sums not exceeding £45,000 per annum for a period of up to 3 years. The Project Grants are advertised in February/March in the Belfast Telegraph.
