Health Action

Action Cancer is pleased to announce the launch of the Health Action Programme 2011/2012. The programme is designed to improve knowledge of health and encourage students to take ownership of their lifestyle choices. The sessions also cover cancer detection and prevention information for both genders.



The programme is made up of the following;

 

Single "Health Action" Session

For students between 11-18 years old, these sessions cover strong, core messages on early detection and cancer prevention including the effects of smoking and alcohol, the importance of exercise and a balanced diet. Information on the prevention and detection of testicular, breast, cervical and skin cancer can be included as appropriate to the group.

 

Three Week "Health Action" Programme

This is an extended programme of 3 sessions covering a range of health issues relating to cancer prevention and general wellbeing. They include;
  • Session 1 - Smoking, Alcohol, Exercise and Social Skills 
  • Session 2 - Cancer prevention, Healthy Eating and Social Skills
  • Session 3 - Compulsory Sponsored Boxercise / Dancerise session

The sessions can be run over a number of weeks or during a single day, each session lasts for one hour for groups of up to 30 students.

Two week Primary "Health Action" Session

This is an extended programme of 2 sessions covering a range of health issues relating to cancer prevention and general wellbeing. They include;

  • Session 1 - Introduction, Smoking, Alcohol, Sun Safety and Diet and Exercise followed by a 20 minute games session
  • Session 2 - Choices in My Life followed by a 20 minute games session
This programme runs for one hour each week and is suitable for up to 30 pupils.
