Youth Justice Agency Partnership
The retail department were delighted this year to have a new charity partnership with the Northern Ireland Youth Justice Agency who throughout 2017 raised a staggering £23,000 through their participation in the Shops’ Challenge and teams of young people provided support in preparing the retail Christmas card selection for stores. The YJA presented a cheque to Action Cancer at their annual staff recognition event at Stormont in December. Their Chief Executive, Declan McGeown commented on what a tremendous achievement it was by all staff involved and they were delighted to be supporting a local charity. Action Cancer retail are thrilled to be working again with the Youth Justice Agency throughout 2018 helping to mentor young people as they help out in our stores.
Another successful year was had with the 2017 Shops’ Challenge being a tremendous success raising £70,000 and companies involved sourced a substantial amount of stock that was used for resale in the Action Cancer stores. Many thanks to the teams involved from Youth Justice, M&S, Team Solutionz, SERC, Royal Mail, Lockton, a staff team from Action Cancer and PKF-FPM, between them taking over 16 Action Cancer stores. All the teams came together at an awards evening in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Belfast, in October, where host Jim Eastwood led the night’s proceedings and declared PKF-FPM the 2017 winning team. The Shops' Challenge has been running for five years, raising in excess of £370,000 for cancer services delivered at Action Cancer House, regionally and onboard the Big Bus.
