Welcome to the BIG BUS.

Action Cancer is proud to announce that its new state-of-the-art Mobile Resource Centre- nicknamed the 'BIG BUS' - is now on the road and travelling to over 200 locations per year, covering every area of Northern Ireland.

 

The launch of this multi-purpose resource centre marks a new era in Action Cancer's cancer prevention and support services.

  Services provided on the BIG BUS include digital breast screening, health promotion and health checks for men and women.

The main sponsor of the Big Bus is SuperValu and its independent retail partners, who have supported Action Cancer’s mobile screening and health promotion services since 2001. As part of our award-winning partnership, SuperValu stores host Big Bus visits and raise funds throughout the year to keep the service moving. Since the service was launched in 2006, 28,000 people have used the cancer prevention and detection services on board and SuperValu stores have raised a phenomenal amount – more than £1m! Thanks to all of the stores and customers for their generous donations.

Local Company Brown's Coachworks, of Lisburn, was awared the contract to build the vehicle. Since the bus was introduced, Northern Ireland Volvo truck and bus dealer, Dennison Commercials Ltd, has carried out all of the maintenance requirements on the bus, to keep it safe and road-legal at no cost to Action Cancer.
