Action Cancer - Big Bus - Cancer prevention and support services

Action Cancer is proud to announce that its new state-of-the-art Mobile Resource Centre- nicknamed the 'BIG BUS' - is now on the road and travelling to over 200 locations per year, covering every area of Northern Ireland.

The launch of this multi-purpose resource centre marks a new era in Action Cancer's cancer prevention and support services.

Services provided on the BIG BUS include digital breast screening, health promotion and health checks for men and women.

The project's main sponsor, retail group SuperValu and its independent retailers, have been fundraising for nearly two years to fund almost half of the service costs as part of their long-term commitment to the charity's mobile cancer services. They aim to raise a phenomenal £612,000 towards the £1.5million costs in the first three years. Local company Brown's Coachworks, of Lisburn, was awarded the contract to build the vehicle.

Since the bus was introduced, Northern Ireland Volvo truck and bus dealer, Dennison Commercials Ltd, has carried out all of the maintenance requirements on the bus, to keep it safe and road-legal at no cost to Action Cancer.
