Walk 4 Life goes pink for Action Cancer
20 October 2017
Walk 4 Life, Carrick celebrated their 10th anniversary by going pink and raising funds for Action Cancer’s lifesaving breast screening service. The walking group encourage ladies to walk for their health, meet new friends and listen to others. The ladies decided to do an Action Cancer fundraiser to show support for those within the group that are currently going through their own breast cancer battle.
Event organiser May Green says, “This is the first time we have ever walked for a charity and I am so impressed with the ladies’ enthusiasm to do it! We have lots of ladies getting sponsorship, which is why we were able to generate such an amazing total of £1740”
Events Executive, Steph Ellis said “We were delighted and so very grateful when Walk 4 Life contacted the charity to say that they would be fundraising for us. It is great to see so many people going out, getting fit and supporting Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity. All money raised will support people affected by cancer throughout Northern Ireland from Action Cancer’s free breast screening service to their range of therapeutic services.”
Action Cancer provides a range of lifesaving and support services to the local community costing £4 million every year. The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on support from the local community to raise the money needed to maintain its cancer prevention, detection and support services.
Action Cancer offers free breast screening to women aged 40-49 and over 70; health checks to men and women aged 16+; counselling and complementary therapies to children (aged 5+) and adults; and health promotion in schools, communities and workplaces. These services are delivered regionally throughout Northern Ireland and from the charity’s Big Bus, sponsored by SuperValu, which visits 235 locations every year.
The hard work and support Action Cancer receives from groups like Walk4 Life allows the charity to continue the work we do throughout Northern Ireland.
