Mum’s The Word for Action Cancer
27 January 2016
Action Cancer, Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity is delighted to announce the launch of their 2016 Mothers’ Day Sponsored Walk, which will take place on Saturday 5th March 2016, within the beautiful grounds of Hillsborough Forest Park, Co Down.
Now in its ninth year, the walk is being co-hosted with Bar Retro at The Plough, Hillsborough, where all participants will be given a well-deserved goody bag sponsored by SuperValu, and treated to mid-morning tea/coffee, scones and delicious shortbread after the walk.
Fundraising Events Officer Arlene Creighton said: “The Mothers’ Day Walk is a wonderful opportunity to get involved, support Action Cancer and do something lovely ahead of Mothering Sunday. For those who may have lost someone close to them – the walk and morning treats are a comforting way to do something in memory of that loved one.”
“It is fantastic to have the support of Supervalu this year who are supplying goodies for all participants. Remember that for every £80 raised from the event, we are able to provide a free breast screening for women aged between 40-49 years and 70 years plus – we want as many people as possible to take part and show their support again this year.”
The 1.5 mile route is suitable for all, including buggies and takes in a beautiful tree lined lake, which attracts a lot of wildfowl including ducks and swans. The walk will start at 10am on Saturday 5 March – registration is from 9.45am.
There will be free car parking facilities at the forest park and directions will be in place for all walkers with an Action Cancer guide leading the way. To take part all you have to do is contact Action Cancer for a registration form and pay a registration fee of £10 per adult or £5 per child and then just raise as much sponsorship as you can.
Action Cancer does not currently receive any government funding and needs to raise £4 million each year to continue its services. Your support with this event will therefore be very much appreciated.
