M&S Employees raise £84,914 for Action Cancer

10 October 2016

M&S employees from 18 stores across the province and their family and friends, took part in many novel fundraising events including a ‘Gran Fundo’ event at the M&S Newtownbreda store at Forestside Shopping Centre which included a cycle challenge as well as a sponsored walk.

Customers also got involved in the many fundraising activities organised in support of the campaign, including a ballot to win an A Class Mercedes car, sponsored walks, in-store sponsored cyclothons and exercise classes, bag packing and kids’ entertainment.

An amazing grand total of £84,914 was raised throughout the summer months for Action Cancer, with every store going above and beyond to help reach this important overall figure.

Dougie King, Head of Fundraising and Communication at Action Cancer added: “Currently there are 63,000 people living with a cancer diagnosis in the North.  By 2030 100,000 people in Northern Ireland will be living with a cancer diagnosis, which means that Action Cancer continues to develop and expand its counselling and complementary therapy services free of charge, at Action Cancer House and at 11 locations in the community across Northern Ireland."

“A cancer diagnosis affects the whole family, and so included in our services is counselling for children as young as 5 years old, sometimes using art therapy, as well as other interventions provided by our professional team. We are very appreciative of the fundraising and awareness raising support of M&S staff and customers, because it enables us to support even more families impacted by a cancer diagnosis, in the weeks and months to come.”
